Board of Archives and Research

Functions

The Board is responsible for the operation of the purpose-built Lutheran Archives at Bowden. As the official repository of the records of the Lutheran Church of Australia, the Archives contain the written and photographic memory of the church.

It provides storage for the records of officials and boards, the church and its districts, and the two former synods (ELCA and UELCA). Records of congregations and parishes are held, together with papers and records of individuals.

The valuable collection includes a large number of books, periodicals, photographs and artefacts. Subject to various conditions, the Archives’ records are available for research by members of the church and the public.
