The Lutheran App – FAQ
What’s an app?
A mobile app is software that runs on a handheld device (phone, tablet, e-reader, iPad, etc) than can connect to wifi or wireless carrier networks, and has an operating system that supports standalone software.
Are tablet devices another gadget that is here today, gone tomorrow?
No, they are here to stay. Studies reveal that Australia has one of the highest tablet take-up rates in the world. Australian Communications and Media Authority’s (ACMA) recent report on the state of communications in Australia found that 29 per cent of households accessed the internet via a tablet.
Can I use The Lutheran app on my computer?
No. The Lutheran app has been designed exclusively for use on iPad and android tablets. An iPhone version will be available very soon.
How can I access The Lutheran app?
You can access it with an iTunes account through the App Store on your iPad. If you have an android, you can assess the App through Google Play.
How much does it cost?
The first issues of The Lutheran were FREE to download. Issues are now available for $3.99 per edition.
If there’s no printing or postage costs, why isn’t it free all the time?
The development of The Lutheran app has been a considerable investment for LCA and while we would like it to be available for free all the time, there are significant costs in collecting the content, production of artwork, software licensing and distribution fees. We know you’ll like what you see, and help to ensure it continues in this format by subscribing to The Lutheran app.
I’m not likely to ever use an app, but can I buy a gift subscription to The Lutheran app for my children and grandchildren?
Unfortunately, no, the app must be subscribed to via the user’s individual account. However, if your loved one has an iPad, you can buy an iTunes Gift Card (available at most major retail outlets) to help your loved ones purchase the app.
Does this mean the end of the printed version of The Lutheran?
No, not at all. Our aim is to make The Lutheran accessible to a wider audience by providing a digital magazine that can be accessed anywhere around the world. The printed version of The Lutheran will continue to be published as usual.
If I have a subscription to the printed version of The Lutheran, do I automatically have access to the app?
No, unfortunately not. The print subscription doesn’t cover the cost of the app, so you will need to keep your print subscription going for a while and also pay for the app downloads each month. We’re sorry about that, but please bear with us during this transition period. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Eventually, will I be able to pay for an annual app subscription?
Yes, that is our intention for the longer term. And then you can safely swap your printed subscription to the app subscription. But first, we have get the app to the point where it’s financially viable. That means we need people like you to buy the editions as they are released. To make sure you find out when the next edition is available, subscribe to The Lutheran eNews.
What can I do to make sure The Lutheran app stays for the long term?
Please spread the word to all the tablet users you know!
